George Washington's Timeline

I learned a lot about teaching with primary sources after attending the Summer Teacher's Institute at the Library of Congress. In this picture, the children are collaborating to put different historical portraits of George Washington in order on a timeline. This activity was a huge success with the children and it really encouraged them to ask better questions!

School Visits

     As a children's librarian assistant I visited all of the local elementary schools to talk to the students about the library's summer reading club. Our theme one summer was all about the ocean, hence the beautiful jellyfish hat that I am sporting in the picture. During each visit I told a story, talked about summer reading, and booktalked a few interesting books. I instantly became a celebrity after those visits.. Several children came into the library looking for me. I guess it is kind of hard to forget someone with a giant jellyfish on their head.
